Dear Ms. Smith,
The possibility to express my passion for hair styling and the chance to invigorate and beautify clients’ appearances at Urban Betty strikes me as a fascinating opportunity. My journey into hair artistry began as an early admiration for the transformative power of hair styling and has now transitioned into four years of diverse and enriching experience. More than just a job, I see hair styling as an avenue to impact positively, and I’m keen on extending this ethos to a team as dynamic and innovative as Urban Betty’s.
At Wild Orchid Salon, I specialized in coloring and highlighting, where I implemented new coloring techniques such as balayage and ombré. My creative and precise applications resulted in an 18.2% increase in client rebooking rates for color treatments, contributing significantly to the salon’s 3.4% annual revenue growth during my tenure. I believe my proficiency in these techniques could be effectively utilized at Urban Betty to expand its hair coloring services.
In my previous role at Bird’s Barbershop, I was known for crafting outstanding prom hairstyles. With an artistic background and a keen eye for trends, I increased prom season bookings by 12.4%, leading to a commendable 3.8% rise in annual revenue from the previous year.
I was responsible for men’s grooming at Shag Salon, where I introduced modern cutting tools and software that facilitated a personalized approach to service. Implementing these tools shortened appointment durations by 14.3%, significantly improving client satisfaction and booking efficiency.
These past experiences, complemented by my infectious enthusiasm and passion for hair styling, make me an excellent contestant for the hair stylist position. Included along with the application is my police clearance certificate. I’m eager to discuss my potential contributions to Urban Betty and look forward to connecting with you soon. Thank you for considering my application.
Sincerely,
Aisha Abiola

Dear Mr. Johnson,
Floyd’s 99 Barbershop’s mission to provide outstanding customer care with cutting-edge hair styling techniques struck a chord with my career ambitions as a junior hairstylist. I’m driven by the opportunity to foster cultivating client relationships while constantly pushing boundaries in the hairstyling techniques I deploy.
While at the Chicago Beauty School, I mastered point cutting, consistently earning praise from instructors for my precise and personalized approach. As a volunteer hairstylist at a local Chicago theater group, I implemented these point cutting techniques to create impressive hairstyles for the actors.
I have also had many hands-on experiences in texture management right at home. From my father’s coarse, curly hair to my sister’s thin, straight locks, I was the appointed home stylist. My innate understanding of products and techniques for different hair textures, nurtured through these personal experiences, facilitated an 11.8% boost in ratings on my student portfolio.
I recently participated in the “Hairoes for Hope” charity fundraising event, raising 12.4% more funds than the previous year, partially attributed to the captivating hairstyles that captured the essence of the evening.
With a commendable foundation in various hairstyling skills and fresh enthusiasm to embark on a career with Floyd’s 99 Barbershop, I’m confident of my capacity to ace the junior hair stylist role. Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Diego Ortiz

Dear Ms. Williams,
Immersing myself in the dynamic world of hair styling while studying at the Paul Mitchell School solidified my passion for this industry and its intricate artistry. Like an artist cheered on by patrons in a gallery, the thrill of seeing a client’s face light up after a successful hair service left a lasting impression. Eager to infuse my skills into an esteemed setting, I’m excited about joining the Andy Lecompte Salon as a hairstylist assistant.
My theoretical and hands-on training at Paul Mitchell provided me with valuable knowledge in shampooing and conditioning, leading to my commendable performance in the school’s annual “Hair Care Mastery” contest. My strategic approach to product selection and application wowed the judges, securing me 2nd place among 43 participants.
In an advanced haircutting course, I became adept at sectioning and clipping. My friend Jenny, eager to support my learning, became my go-to model. I meticulously sectioned and clipped her hair to create various styles, garnering attractive reviews on her social media posts by a 27% increase in engagements.
My culminating project was an exploration of color mixing and application. The comprehensive grasp of color theory and my practical knowledge of application techniques empowered me to create an array of unique hair colors at a community charity event. With four specialized certifications, including in Brazilian Blowouts and curly hair styling, I believe that my experience aligns with your search for a positive, creative, and self-motivated salon assistant manager keen on growth within a dynamic team.

My dedication to ongoing professional development, combined with my ability to consult effectively on stylistic options and recommend products that resonate with specific client needs, aligns perfectly with the responsibilities outlined for your hairdressers.
At length, my career has included adapting to clients’ diverse needs and preferences, a skill I believe to be critical for a mobile hairstylist. At Krimson Hair Studio, I increased merchandise sales by 17% and improved the booking rate by 26% through upselling techniques and loyalty programs. These accomplishments reflect my ability to not only meet but exceed client expectations.

How to Write a Beautiful Hair Stylist Cover Letter
Every client and hairstyle is unique, and potential employers want to see that you can adapt to constantly changing demands. One of the best ways to do this is by demonstrating your ability to tailor your cover letter’s focal points to the job description!
If you’re applying to a salon that specializes in making the most of each client’s hair texture, center your points around that instead of your ability to create the perfect balayage. Your reader will want to see how well you align yourself with a specific role.
Writing a greeting and intro with style
Just like you commit each new client’s name to memory, you’ll need to put effort into addressing your cover letter to someone by name! Ditch any dating, generic greetings like “Dear Sir/Madam” and address an actual person instead.
Once you’ve researched the organization for your addressee’s name, it’s time to hook their attention with some of your stellar hair stylist skills! Use a couple of your existing abilities, like cutting-edge trend knowledge or colorist expertise, to leave an impression of capability and artistry.
Connect with the company vision through your skills, too. Does the job description emphasize the ability to serve a diverse client base? Does the company website mention any goals that overlap with your job skills?
Throughout your opener, make sure you show enthusiasm for the job. Your main goal is to state why you both want you working there ASAP!
Don’t write an opener that’s informal, provides no real qualifications for the job, and has no hook:
Oh, honey, no . . .
Hey!
Can’t wait to start working for you. I’ve been dyeing my own hair since I was a kid so this’ll be great. Here’s some of the stuff I can do which I know you’re interested in since you wrote about it:
See how much better it looks to share a qualifying experience, respect for the new role, and enthusiasm for the role:
Beautiful opener!
Dear Ms. Williams,
Immersing myself in the dynamic world of hair styling while studying at the Paul Mitchell School solidified my passion for this industry and its intricate artistry. Like a painter cheered on my patrons in a gallery, the thrill of seeing a client’s face light up after each successful hair service left a lasting impression. Eager to infuse my skill into an esteemed setting, I’m excited about joining the Andy Lecompte Salon as a hairstylist assistant.
Writing some glowing body paragraphs
Now that you’ve hooked your reader, it’s time to keep the ball rolling with some skillfully crafted body paragraphs. Potential employers want to see examples of how you’ve built up confidence for your clients and success for your salon.
Make sure you build your body paragraphs around what the job description calls for, too. If you’re applying to an organization that prides itself on creating artsy, alternative looks, cite examples of when you achieved similar results and sent your clients home smiling.
You’ll also need to provide metrics to substantiate your success stories. What quantifiable data do you have to back your achievements? Positive customer feedback ratings, increased percentages of your salon’s brand reach, or improved profits?
Here’s a lovely body paragraph example:
In my previous role at Bird’s Barbershop, I was known for crafting outstanding prom hairstyles. With an artistic background and a keen eye for trends, I increased prom season bookings by 12.4%, leading to a commendable 3.8% rise in annual revenue from the previous year.
Closing and signing off your cover letter with finesse
It’s time to reconnect with the company by aligning your values with theirs and reiterating that you want the job! Summarize how your qualifications match up to the job description by working in a couple of your relevant skills.
Don’t forget to include a call to action. You want the opportunity to discuss your excellent fit for the job role in greater depth, so invite your reader to contact you again. And don’t forget to thank them for their time!
You can say thanks either in your closing paragraph, or you can do so as your signoff. Whichever option you pick, just make sure your signoff is professional and always use your real name.
Just don’t write a closer like this one, which is super vague, too informal, and doesn’t flow well at all:
Ouch!
Well, that’s about everything! Let me know when I can start because I love playing around with hair colors and I did great in cosmetology school.
-Bobbi M.
This one’s way better. Strive for a closer that provides a tasteful recap of your qualifications, a connection with the specific organization you’re writing to, and all the formalities.
What a lovely closer!
With the above experiences, foundational knowledge, and undying passion for hair-related artistry, I’m equipped to become a proficient hairstylist assistant at Andy Lecompte Salon. I look forward to discussing how my skills can help enhance your salon’s reputation.
Thank you for your time and consideration,
Leila Naderi
No matter how glorious your accomplishments are, your hair stylist cover letter should always fall at one page or less! Recruiters don’t have much spare time, so they’ll be skimming fast. Streamline your cover letter so your accomplishments leave a quick, powerful impression.
Good question! Applicants used to include addresses on the actual cover letter, but this is no longer necessary since so much of the application process happens digitally.
What kind of tone do they write in? Remember: you want to reflect the organization’s passion for the perfect client glow-up and show that you’ll fit seamlessly into their work culture. Refer back to the job description and the company website for inspiration.
